The best place to start is with a well thought out design. Imagine trying to build a house without architectural plans. It would be hard to know where to begin. The same is true with landscape construction. Having a design completed prior to construction can help the homeowner save time, money, and frustration by having most of the necessary decisions made prior to starting.
Gull Lake Landscape Co. offers a full landscape design service with two options.
Option 1: You bring in sketches, measurements, and pictures to our garden center and let the garden center staff help you choose plants and suggest placement, bed layout, materials, etc. This service is free to walk in customers, however your end product will just be a working copy on pencil and paper. The intention of this service is to provide the Do It Yourselfer a basic guideline and plan to complete a simple foundation planting, perennial garden, and similar projects.
Option 2: By appointment, our landscape designer will meet with you at your home to listen to your needs and see the proposed project area first hand. Our designer will then outline the mutual understanding of the project scope and explain what we can do to incorporate all of your needs/desires into a formal landscape design. There is no charge for the initial visit, however there is a design fee for our design services. Each project is different, so your specific design fee will be stated based on our understanding of the project scope during the initial visit. Upon your approval of the design fee, we will then immediately begin to do a site inventory, site analysis, and take all necessary measurements and pictures. Upon design completion, a second meeting will take place. Your complete formal design will include a color copy of the computer aided design (we back them up and save our design files indefinitely), a basic guide of landscape plants for our area including pictures, and estimate for all of the proposed work, and a one on one interpretation of the design by our designer. Upon presentation, the homeowner will have the option of immediately securing a place in our landscape schedule pending possible revisions, or pay the design fee and take the design home to consider. As an incentive for GLLC to do all or a portion of the work, we credit the design fee on the final bill. So you really get a free design if we do the work.
Our landscape designer, Bruce, has extensive experience. He has a BS in Horticulture with a minor in Landscape Architecture from Michigan State University. Bruce has worked in the green industry since 1987 and has been a landscape designer since 1995. When we start the design process, your specific needs are forefront on our minds. We consider things such as drainage, exposure, soil conditions, future maintenance, wildlife damage, as well as the principles of landscape architecture. We carefully consider every aspect because we want to form a long lasting partnership with every customer. Our goal is to exceed your expectations so you may have us do more work next year or refer us to your neighbor. And when we finish the project, it won’t be the last time you hear from us. We periodically stop by previous projects when we are in the neighborhood to offer horticultural and maintenance advice.
